CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

ASHTANGA YOGA

The Ashtanga Yoga system is a philosophy of life that has the potential to create a vibrantly healthy body and mind. The asana (posture) sequences are intelligently designed to detoxify the body, align the muscular-skelital system, improve the circulation, create a light and strong body and a calm mind.
Ashtanga Yoga coordinates movement and breath, turning static postures into a dynamic flow known as vinyasa. The length of one inhale or one exhale dictates the length of time spent transitioning between postures. To deepen the practice further and to focus the mind, the eyes gaze at specific points depending on the asana.
With regular practice, the benefits of Ashtanga Yoga are felt immediately. The process of learning the asanas challenges one mentally to release old patterns of behavior and as the physical transformation takes place a parallel psychological process is happening as well.
Ashtanga Yoga is traditionally taught in the Mysore style, where each student moves through the practice at his or her own pace and level. A practitioner may advance to more difficult poses over a period of years but the goal of this style is not to learn the more difficult asanas but rather to learn to maintain internal focus throughout the practice.

VINYASA CORE
Vinyasa Core is a 75 minute vigorous yoga class that builds strength, increases flexibility, and encourages focus.  We work through sun salutations, core strengthening exercises, as well as standing, balancing, and spine exercises. The class is a challenging and rewarding experience. Some prior yoga practice recommended.

KUNDALINI YOGA is a physical, mental and spiritual discipline for developing strength, awareness, character, and consciousness. Practitioners call Kundalini yoga, the yoga of awareness because they claim it expands sensory sensitivity, enhances intuition, and merges individual consciousness with the infinite consciousness of God. Considered an advanced form of yoga and meditation, its goal is to cultivate and harness the unlimited creative and spiritual potential that exists within every human being.

SLOW FLOW   Moderate level hatha yoga, beginning with warm-up stretches, followed by a slow flow of postures—forward bends, backbends, warrior poses, twists and balancing—mostly in a sun salutation framework.  A slow flow, where postures are linked together, but held for a few breaths, allows for deep opening, strengthening, and reflection.  Beginners and more advanced students are also welcome as instructor adapts class to the students, providing modifications and variations as needed.

HOT YOGA

A less military style than Bikram yoga, Yoga East Hot Yoga examines 26 sequential postures, with improtu or prolonged focus on breathwork, particular stretches, core strength, muscle lengthening, alignment and balance. TOWEL REQUIRED. Your OWN MAT, requested.

TWILIGHT YOGA

Mellow out your day with deep stretchs that will target specific areas of the body, as you watch the light change and transition to evening. Music and summer breeze will help complete your experience.

KRIPALU

Experience a wide range of postures built from the ground up. Focus on linking breathe to movement, centering, alignment, and exploring your edge. Stretch your boundaries and come out feeling on top of the world.

YIN YOGA

Suitable for almost all levels of students, Yin Yoga is a perfect complement to the dynamic and muscular (yang) styles of yoga that emphasize internal heat, and the lengthening and contracting of our muscles. Yin Yoga generally targets the connective tissues of the hips, pelvis, and lower spine.

While initially this style of yoga can seem quite boring, passive, or soft, yin practice can be quite challenging due to the long duration of the poses.  You need to experience this to really know what Yin Yoga is all about. After you have experienced it, even just once, you will realize that you have been doing only half of the asana practice.
